Job summary

Pocatello Parks and Recreation is seeking a Lifeguard to monitor the Community Recreation Center Pool and the Ross Park Aquatics Complex. Must be 15+ and able to pass a background check.

The role requires constant patron surveillance, excellent customer service, and readiness for varied shifts, including days, evenings and weekends. The position emphasizes teamwork with city staff and external partners, with duties that may change as needed by management.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be 15 years of age or older.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.
• 1-2 seasons of Lifeguarding and Swim Instructor experience may be required depending on position.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the Required Skills, Knowledge And Abilities To Successfully Perform The essential functions of the position may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs general pool and patron supervision including constant surveillance of patrons using the CRC Pool facility or the Aquatics Complex.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required and maintains high standards of customer service during interactions with pool and facility patrons.

This position requires applicants to be 15 years of age or older. The job may require successful completion of a background check. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public. The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to chemical hazards. This position works: days, evenings, and weekends as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
