Job summary

Teton County pool lifeguard position is responsible for supervising pool patrons, enforcing safety rules, and performing water rescues as needed. The role requires lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certifications and a proactive approach to safety in a public pool environment.

This on-site role includes standing and active duties, weekend and night shifts, and collaboration with county staff to maintain a secure and enjoyable swimming facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Up to 1 year of experience.
• Lifeguard Certification.
• CPR/First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

• Monitors activities at pool to prevent accidents and incidents; follows emergency action plans and established procedures in the event of an emergency.
• Rescues swimmers at risk; administers first aid as necessary.
• Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; maintains order at pool and adjoining areas.
• Determines chemical balance of water.
• Provides general information on pool operations and protocols to patrons.
• Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, observes the activities of patrons of the public pool facility and adjoining areas and enforces safety rules and regulation. Administers first aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and water rescue to patrons as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Up to 1 year of experience

Required Licenses and Certifications:

• Lifeguard Certification.
• CPR/First Aid Certification

Required Knowledge of:

• Pool equipment and maintenance; swimming pool sanitation and chlorine systems.
• Lifesaving methods and procedures including first aid and CPR.
• Rules, regulations, and procedures involving public pool conduct.

Required Skills in:

• Administering first aid and CPR.
• Enforcing procedures and rules.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

• Work is performed in public pool area. Requires both standing, sitting and physical efforts when attempting a waterrescue; must meet physical requirements set in Lifeguard Certification training. May be exposed to bodily fluids whileadministering first aid; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.
• Required to work routine nights and weekends as regular schedule.
