Job summary

The City of Pocatello Parks & Recreation is seeking a Lifeguard to monitor activities at the Community Recreation Center Pool facility or Ross Park Aquatics Complex. Applicants must be 15 years of age or older and will work days, evenings, and weekends as required.

Responsibilities include vigilant supervision, providing emergency care, and maintaining excellent customer service with patrons. A background check may be required and positions may be reassigned as needed.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be 15 years of age or older.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required;
• 1-2 years/seasons of Lifeguarding experience may be required depending on position.

The Parks and Recreation Lifeguard monitors activities in and around the Community Recreation Center Pool facility or the Ross Park Aquatics Complex. This position requires applicants to be 15 years of age or older.

The job may require successful completion of a background check. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public.

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to chemical hazards. This position works: days, evenings, and weekends as required.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications

• Applicant must be 15 years of age or older.
• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required;
• 1-2 years/seasons of Lifeguarding and Swim Instructor experience may be required depending on position.

An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required.
