Job summary

City of McMinnville's Aquatic Center seeks lifeguards for morning and mid-day shifts. The role requires availability for 5:30am-10:00am, 10:30am-1:00pm, and/or 3:00pm-5:30pm, totaling 15–25 hours weekly. You will be trained and expected to follow Lifeguard standards and center guidelines.

Job description

The City of McMinnville's Aquatic Center is in search of lifeguards who are able to work morning shifts, and mid-day shifts. Applicants must be available for weekday shifts from 5:30am-10:00am, mid day shifts from 10:30am-1:00pm and/or 3:00pm-5:30pm. This position will work 15-25 hours per week.

The ideal candidate is responsible, team-oriented, and an enthusiastic individual seeking to support our aquatic programs. While ensuring the safety of our patrons you'll build leadership skills, work with a fun team, and make a positive impact in our community. You will be trained and expected to act in compliance with these guidelines.

You must have your lifeguard certification and be at least 15 years old to apply.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.
  2. Respond quickly to all emergency situations.
  3. Comply with and enforce all policies, procedures, and regulations set by management.
  4. Administer first aid/CPR as needed.
  5. Provide a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment.
  6. Act according to professional lifeguard standards at all times.
  7. Complete all records and reports as required.
  8. Complete required monthly trainings and attend required monthly in-service training.
  9. Maintain lifeguard certification for the duration of employment in position.
  10. Perform janitorial, maintenance and other support duties as required.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
  • Participate in committees when requested.
  • Maintain proficiency in job requirements which may include attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related city, state, and federal standards related to confidentiality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES

Star Guard Elite (SGE) Lifeguard Certification or equivalent, nationally recognized lifeguard certification. Must cross-over to SGE certification within three months.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position requires minimal (20-40%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills assemble, build or repair machines or other objects. Occasional (21-50% of the time) use of office equipment. The position requires some (20-40%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require continual speed, hand eye coordination and equipment operation. The work environment has regular hazards or obstacles (40-60%). There may be some personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are somewhat uncomfortable, with moderate (40-60%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may require regular responsibility for driving.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general direction of Recreation Supervisor.
