Lake Junaluska Assembly Inc seeks a Seasonal Lifeguard to oversee aquatics operations and ensure guest safety at the Lake Junaluska pool.

Qualifications

  • Experience in lifeguarding strongly preferred.
  • Hospitality experience strongly preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid required. Reimbursement or on-the-job certification is offered.
  • Must have valid Lifeguard Certification. Reimbursement or on-the-job certification is offered.
  • Must be at least 15 years old to meet lifeguard certification requirements.
  • Valid Driver’s License preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate with Recreation Supervisor through a variety of communication methods, e.g. Email, text or phone.
  • Must maintain a positive attitude and put the Guest’s needs as a top priority.
  • Must have demonstrated good communication skills and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures safety policies are followed.
  • Enforces pool rules and water safety procedures.
  • Performs first aid or CPR as required and coordinates rescue procedures.
  • Equips and inspects pool facilities and water quality records.
  • Assists with pool cleaning and maintenance, including bathrooms and deck areas.
  • Supports recreation concessions and class activities when needed.

Seasonal Work Schedule

This is a seasonal position. Employment for the 2026 season will begin in May, with an anticipated first day of work on or around May1–2. Pre‑season onboarding may occur in April as scheduled by Human Resources.

Essential Functions
  • Must possess excellent hospitality skills and a strong desire to foster an attitude of Christian hospitality to “exceed guest expectations”.
  • Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
  • Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool, related facilities and equipment; including restrooms, pool deck and loungers.
  • Assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
  • Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts to ensure a safe pool environment when competing programs/priorities require use of aquatic facilities.
  • As necessary, assist and support the recreation concessions stand operations.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and report any unsafe activities or conditions immediately to supervisor or the Human Resources department.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required to assure the success of Lake Junaluska mission.

  • Proven computer skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills is required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of customer, clients and employee questions.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
Working Conditions
  • Moderate to heavy physical activity performing strenuous and non strenuous activities with moderate to loud noise.
  • Primarily working outdoors exposed to elements such as heat, sun, cold, snow, rain and wind.
  • Ability to coordinate work, continuously move about, able to stand for prolonged periods of time, walk, sit, manual dexterity to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk to and hear staff and customer requests, and also lifts or otherwise move objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must have adequate vision to carry out daily activities. Good peripheral vision is necessary.
  • Work schedule; Recreation area is open Monday – Sunday, with nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
