Job summary

The YMCA in Fort Mill, SC seeks a Part-Time Lifeguard under the supervision of the Aquatics Director. You will oversee swimmer safety during recreational and fitness swims, administer First Aid, enforce facility policies, and maintain water quality and sanitation.

Responsibilities include daily pool inspections, incident reporting, equipment checks, and assisting with branch events. Must be 15+, hold a recognized lifeguard certification (ARC/YMCA/ILTP/Starguard/BS), CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen.

Qualifications

• Age at least 15 years old.
• Current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certifications (ARC/YMCA/ILTP/Starguard/BSA Lifeguarding).
• Professional CPR and First Aid certifications.
• O2 certification or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Strong interpersonal communication and a positive, mission-driven attitude.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of facility patrons and maintain constant pool surveillance.
• Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations.
• Respond to patron inquiries and provide branch information.
• Inspect the aquatic facility daily and report unsafe conditions.
• Complete records on water chemistry, incidents, and accidents.
• Maintain a clean, safe pool area and promote teamwork.
• Assist with staff meetings, in-service trainings and events.

Job description

Part Time
Under supervision of the Aquatics Director or Head Lifeguard and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the lifeguard is responsible for supervision of swimmers during recreational and fitness swims; administers First Aid, exercises control of the swimmers and maintains all safety and sanitation procedures according to the policies of the Upper Palmetto Aquatics Department and State Swimming Pool Operations Codes. The Lifeguard will assist the Aquatic Director with various branch activities such as special events and other activities that occur on various occasions.

• Responsible for the safety of facility patrons
• Maintains a constant surveillance of the pool area
• Enforces all of the facility’s policies, rules and regulations
• Responds to patron inquiries and concerns as well as provides branch information as needed
• Inspects the aquatic facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor.
• Completes records and reports regarding the following:
• Water chemistry
• Incidents and accidents
• Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff
• Participates in all staff meetings and in-service trainings
• Conducts aquatic facility maintenance as assigned
• Maintains a safe, clean, well-supervised pool area that welcomes participation
• Team work is promoted and demonstrated
• Communicates aquatics programs, rules and regulations
• Other duties as needed

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15years old
• Must have a current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certifications to include: AmericanRed Cross, YMCA, ILTP Ellis, Starguard, and Boy Scouts of American LifeguardingCertification. If not American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, must complete the American Red Cross Lifeguard course in the first 120 days of employment.
• Current certification in the following:
• Professional CPR
• First Aid
• O2 (If you do not currently have this certification, must obtain within 30 days of hire or at first available training)
• Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Must have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA.
• Walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25 pounds), pushing, kneeling, standing and speaking
• Must be able to accomplish the following
• Remaining alert, with no lapses of consciousness
• Sit for extended periods including in an elevated chair
• Communicate with others immediately when responding to an emergency
• Hear noises and distress signals
• Observe all assigned areas of the pool or water park
• Perform all needed rescues, resuscitation and survival skills
• Think in abstract, solve problems, make quick decisions
