Job summary

A community recreational organization is looking for a conscientious Lifeguard to supervise swimmers and ensure safety during aquatic activities. The role requires maintaining safety protocols and providing First Aid when necessary. Candidates must possess current Lifeguard certifications, including CPR and First Aid. This part-time position also includes assisting with various branch activities and maintaining a welcoming environment in the pool area.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certifications required.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and staff.
  • O2 certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise swimmers during recreational and fitness swims.
  • Administer First Aid when necessary.
  • Maintain safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Conduct aquatic facility maintenance as assigned.
  • Inspect the aquatic facility daily and report unsafe conditions.
  • Complete records on water chemistry and incidents/accidents.
  • Maintain relationships with members, participants and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Perform aquatic facility maintenance as assigned.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and well-supervised pool area.
  • Communicate aquatics programs, rules and regulations.

Job description

Part Time Under supervision of the Aquatics Director or Head Lifeguard and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the lifeguard is responsible for supervision of swimmers during recreational and fitness swims; administers First Aid, exercises control of the swimmers and maintains all safety and sanitation procedures according to the policies of the Upper Palmetto Aquatics Department and State Swimming Pool Operations Codes. The Lifeguard will assist the Aquatic Director with various branch activities such as special events and other activities that occur on various occasions.

  • Responsible for the safety of facility patrons
  • Maintains a constant surveillance of the pool area
  • Enforces all of the facility’s policies, rules and regulations
  • Responds to patron inquiries and concerns as well as provides branch information as needed
  • Inspects the aquatic facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor.
  • Completes records and reports regarding the following:
  • Water chemistry
  • Incidents and accidents
  • Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff
  • Participates in all staff meetings and in-service trainings
  • Conducts aquatic facility maintenance as assigned
  • Maintains a safe, clean, well-supervised pool area that welcomes participation
  • Team work is promoted and demonstrated
  • Communicates aquatics programs, rules and regulations
  • Other duties as needed
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 15years old
  • Must have a current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certifications to include: AmericanRed Cross, YMCA, ILTP Ellis, Starguard, and Boy Scouts of American LifeguardingCertification. If not American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified, must complete the American Red Cross Lifeguard course in the first 120 days of employment.
  • Current certification in the following:
  • Professional CPR
  • First Aid
  • O2 (If you do not currently have this certification, must obtain within 30 days of hire or at first available training)
  • Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have a positive attitude and desire to achieve the mission of the Upper Palmetto YMCA.
  • Walking, carrying, sitting, seeing, hearing, crouching, lifting (25 pounds), pushing, kneeling, standing and speaking
  • Must be able to accomplish the following
  • Remaining alert, with no lapses of consciousness
  • Sit for extended periods including in an elevated chair
  • Communicate with others immediately when responding to an emergency
  • Hear noises and distress signals
  • Observe all assigned areas of the pool or water park
  • Perform all needed rescues, resuscitation and survival skills
  • Think in abstract, solve problems, make quick decisions
