Job summary

The YMCA of Greenville is seeking a part-time Lifeguard to monitor pool areas, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies with professionalism and care. You will help create a welcoming environment for members and guests while following YMCA policies and procedures.

Must hold current lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid/AED; training is offered if needed. The role includes basic program support and ensuring a safe aquatic space for the community.

Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard Certification from American Red Cross or YMCA
  • CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification
  • Ability to enforce pool rules and respond to emergencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members and guests

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active surveillance to ensure pool safety.
  • Enforce pool rules and safety policies; administer first aid and CPR as needed.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and document incidents per YMCA procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to members and program participants.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.

Responsibilities
  • Being “rescue ready” and maintains active surveillance to ensure safety of the pool and aquatics area.
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies. Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area to ensure a safe working environment and be able to answer customer questions.
  • Knows and able to perform all emergency procedures and immediately responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; accurately completes related reports as required.
  • Properly completes daily tasks according to YMCA Aquatics Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Remains calm and objective when under pressure or challenged by others while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Provides excellent customer service to members, guests, and program participants.
  • Attends required meetings, trainings and in-services.

Other expectations

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
    • Maintenance Employees-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age 15
  • Current Lifeguard Certification - American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard or be able to gain certification within 60 days of employment.
  • CPR, First Aid, & AED Certification
  • Demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate and enforce policies and procedures to members, program participants, and guests.
  • Ability to react quickly and properly in emergency situations.
  • Complete New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention, and Blood Bourne Pathogen training within first 30-days of employment.
