Job summary

Allianz Life is seeking an experienced Underwriter to assess medical and financial risk for routine and complex cases up to $5,000,000 sign off authority. You will communicate decisions, mentor staff, and contribute to industry presentations while collaborating with internal distribution.

The role reports to the Manager Underwriting and may involve travel. A four-year degree is required, with 4+ years of underwriting experience in life or long-term care.

What you do:

Under limited supervision, assesses the medical and financial risk for routine and complex cases up to $5,000,000 sign off authority, and assigns the proper risk class to the case. Communicates underwriting decisions to the producer or FMO and works with internal distribution to communicate the offer when necessary. Acts as a mentor for less experienced underwriters. May travel, and deliver presentations, representing Allianz Life at industry events and to distribution partners. You will report to the Manager Underwriting.

• Able to independently work through difficult formal and informal cases by reviewing medical records, medical exams, financial documents, telephone interviews, and other underwriting requirements to determine proper risk class assessment in accordance with company guidelines.
• Properly document risk assessment information and underwriting decisions within system application.
• Communicate underwriting decisions with field distribution, agents, and FMOs. Build rapport by educating on additional strategies that can be used to present adverse decisions to clients, as well as education on our products, requirements and underwriting philosophy.
• Correspond effectively with internal and external customers regarding the status of cases, including field and internal distribution partners, the medical community, reinsurers and vendors.
• Participate on department projects as assigned and share knowledge/mentor other underwriters and Enterprise Operations employees, as needed.
• Utilization of artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI).

What you bring:

• 4+ years of experience: Life or long term care underwriting
• Four year degree required: Business, communications, or medical fields of study or equivalent work experience
• Ability to travel up to 10% for field visits, etc.
• You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas.

Job posting range: $93,000 - $126,500

Note the job posting range is exclusive of company benefits or other compensation. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive program. If you are hired, your final base salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, competencies, and/or education. In addition to those factors, we will also consider internal equity of our current employees. Please keep in mind that the range provided is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at or near the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
