Essential Functions

Universal Education Companies is seeking a passionate Life Skills Support- Special Education Teacher to work in an urban K-8 School setting in Philadelphia, PA. Teachers create a warm, welcoming culture focused on student achievement, with high expectations and dedicated support.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support to students in a positive environment.
• Use special educational strategies to enhance sensory, perceptual-motor, language, cognition, and memory development.
• Teach academic subjects employing techniques like phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition.
• Teach socially acceptable behavior per students’ IEPs, using positive behavioral support techniques.
• Modify curricula for students with disabilities using various instructional techniques and technologies.
• Plan and conduct instructional activities, demonstrations, and work periods.
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures conducive to learning.
• Meet with parents to discuss progress and educational needs.
• Collaborate with professionals to develop IEPs supporting students’ development.
• Maintain student records and prepare reports as required.
• Set clear objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Develop communication, monitoring, and follow-up plans for inclusive classrooms.
• Provide crisis intervention when needed.
• Assist in data collection for classroom interventions.
• Participate as a member of multidisciplinary teams.
• Assist in preparing data for reports.
• Engage in professional development activities.
• Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Valid PENNSYLVANIA TEACHER CERTIFICATION (Level I or II) required.
• Experience with urban special education populations.
• Data-driven instruction experience leading to student gains.
