Job summary

Summit Leadership Academy seeks a Paraprofessional - Life Skills to assist in meeting physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a classroom setting. Under the supervision of a certified teacher and the principal, you will help implement programs including self-help, behavior management, and instruction.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and a valid Texas educational aide certificate.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• TX educational aide certificate required.
• Experience with children preferred.
• Ability to support students with disabilities.
• Willingness to follow district procedures.

Responsibilities

• Help teachers prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist teachers with administrative records and required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transfers and personal care.
• Inform teachers of students' special needs or problems.
• Help manage behavior and intervene in crises as needed.
• Respect differences in medical, physical, and emotional needs.
• Work with students or small groups to develop motor skills.
• Supervise students during the day (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development and meetings.
• Follow district safety and emergency procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
