BENNINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS seeks a High School Life Skills Paraprofessional to support students and staff in creating a positive instructional environment. The role includes supervision, data collection, and assisting with individualized education plans under supervision.

The position follows a 177-day schedule aligned with student calendars, with some training time; benefits include LTD and paid sick and personal leave, though health insurance is not offered.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow written and oral directions.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Regular attendance is essential.
• Professional, personable, and welcoming demeanor.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism with staff, public, parents, and Board Members.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Maintains regular, dependable in-person attendance.
• Models appropriate behaviors for students.
• Develops professional rapport with teachers and staff.
• Assists students at arrival and dismissal.
• Supervises students during lunch and recess.
• Monitors and records student performance and progress with teachers.
• Performs routine classroom management and maintenance duties.
• Supervises students during lunch, recess, and before/after school.
• Follows IEPs and IDEA requirements as applicable.
• Organizes materials and schedules under supervisor guidance.
• Assists with educational technology and software as needed.
• Works with diverse student populations.
• Maintains instructional focus in the classroom.
• Communicates courteously with administrators, students, staff, and parents.
• Records data for accountability and evaluation.
• Maintains calm and professional demeanor.
• Assists teachers with special needs programs.
• Carries out educational activities designed by teachers and support staff.
• Lifts 50 pounds and adapts to physical demands.
• Assists with behavior plans.
• Keeps confidentiality.
• May travel to other buildings if needed.
• Assists with Special Education Transportation as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
