Job summary

MSD of Pike Township is seeking an Elementary Life Skills Instructional Aide to support students with significant disabilities in developing essential life skills and greater independence in daily living, communication, and social participation.

You will collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), adapt materials, reinforce learning with multisensory approaches, and monitor progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education preferred.
• Experience with children with significant disabilities preferred.
• Knowledge of life skills instruction and behavior management techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse families and staff.
• Patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting independence.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or small group support to develop self-care skills.
• Implement strategies to promote independence in daily living activities.
• Facilitate opportunities to practice life skills in classroom and community settings.
• Assist teachers with functional academic instruction and materials adaptation.
• Support communication and socialization development, including AAC.
• Collaborate with teachers and therapists to create individualized plans.
• Implement behavior management strategies and monitor progress.
• Document progress and participate in team meetings.
