Job summary

West Haven Community House is hiring a Life Skills Coach to support adults in our DDS-funded Day program. The role requires independence, teamwork, and the ability to adapt schedules to meet client needs.

The coach assists with ADL, socialization, behavior management, safety, and goal achievement in a supportive setting. The position offers a Monday–Friday 8:00am–4:00pm schedule with competitive benefits including health, dental, vacation and more.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma; 2 years of related experience with adults with intellectual disabilities preferred.
• Must be 21 years old or older.
• CPR/First Aid certification required prior to hire.
• CT Driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to obtain approval from leased vehicle company.
• DDS required certifications (PMT, DDS Medication Certification) as needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe and accessible environment for all individuals.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain wellbeing per agency/state guidelines.
• Demonstrate empathy and adapt to individuals' needs.
• Use incidental teaching to promote independence during activities.
• Provide transportation as needed for program participation.
• Support personal hygiene and daily living activities.
• Follow dietary guidelines and ensure appropriate meal care.
• Maintain person-centered plans and proper documentation across programs.
• Advocate for individuals and ensure their preferences are respected.
• Track trainings and certifications; ensure recertifications before expiration dates.
• Log hours using the ADP biometric system and complete shift duties as assigned.
