Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent advanced research experience in the life sciences.
• Strong expertise in at least one biological field (e.g., molecular biology, genetics/genomics, cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, microbiology, immunology, ecology, structural biology, or biophysics).
• Ability to interpret scientific experiments, data, and research findings; strong scientific writing and attention to detail.

The work

Create challenging biology problems based on realistic research contexts. The tasks should test how well someone can interpret and connect scientific evidence, not just recall facts.

• Write clear questions and rigorous reference answers grounded in scientific reasoning.
• Interpret experiments, datasets, figures, sequences, structures, and other biological evidence.
• Check biological claims, calculations, assumptions, and conclusions for accuracy.
• Spot ambiguity, alternative interpretations, and questions that lack enough information.
• Make tasks self-contained and reproducible where applicable, document them clearly, and incorporate reviewer feedback while maintaining quality and throughput.

What the role requires

• A Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, or equivalent advanced research experience in the life sciences.
• Strong expertise in at least one biological field, such as molecular biology, genetics and genomics, cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, microbiology, immunology, ecology, structural biology, or biophysics.
• Ability to interpret scientific experiments, data, and research findings; strong scientific writing and attention to detail.
• Remote, open worldwide. One-month contractor assignment requiring at least 20 hours per week, including four hours of overlap with Pacific Time.

Helpful experience

Experience designing graduate-level problems, assessments, or research exercises is useful. Scientific manuscript review, explaining complex science through precise questions, evaluating AI-generated scientific responses, peer-reviewed publications, or graduate-level teaching and mentoring are also helpful.
