Black Mountain Neuro Medical Treatment Center (BMNTC) is accepting applications for a full-time Life Enrichment Specialist (Health Care Technician II) to assist with involving our residents in meaningful and enjoyable activities. This position is part of the Life Enrichment Department which functions as a part of the interdisciplinary team process to provide quality of life opportunities for residents. Through services provided by the Life Enrichment team, we strive to meet the emotional, social, behavioral, cognitive, physical and aesthetic needs of our residents.

The Life Enrichment Specialist position does not require certification as a Nurse Aide I.

Usual Work Schedule:
8:30 A - 5:00 P
Monday – Friday
Rotating evening and weekend work is expected.

Flexibility is required for training/education purposes and to meet the needs of the facility.

This position is designated MANDATORY and MUST report or stay over during adverse weather events and/or other emergencies.



The Life Enrichment Specialist participates in various aspects of resident enrichment including, but not limited to, the following:

  • providing residents with enjoyable and meaningful activities according to their life enrichment profiles, personal preferences, and individual needs and abilities
  • interacting with residents in a manner that shows dignity and respect and ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents as they participate in activities by adhering to facility policies and procedures following the care plan recommendations, and utilizing techniques in resident's individual behavior plan
  • collaborating with other disciplines including Recreational Therapy, Creative & Expressive Arts, Chaplain, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, etc.
  • providing snacks and/or drinks during activities but only according to physician's orders and resident's individual plan of care
  • ensuring activity areas, supplies, and life enrichment storage spaces are clean, neat, organized, and safe
  • providing feedback and input to help evaluate initiatives, leisure activities, events, or special projects
  • completing accurate, timely documentation in an electronic format that reflects the services provided to meet regulation from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid

ABOUT BLACK MOUNTAIN NEURO-MEDICAL TREATMENT CENTER:
Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is one of three state operated facilities serving adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that co-exist with neurodevelopmental or neurocognitive disorders often related to a diagnosis of severe and persistent mental illness or intellectual disability. The health and physical status of these residents require 24-hour supervision, daily nursing care, and assistance with activities of daily living.

KSA Terms

Basic Knowledge – implies familiarity with the basic principles and terminology of a field to work effectively in a limited range of work situations.

Intermediate Knowledge – implies sufficient knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work effectively within a normal range of standard work situations with only general supervision.

Thorough Knowledge – The advanced comprehensive knowledge of the subject to enable the employee to work independently without direct supervision and to assume responsibility for the solution of unusual as well as commonplace work problems, advise on technical questions, and plan methods for difficult work situations. This degree of knowledge means that the work calls for a complete mastery and understanding of the occupational field.

The successful candidate will return to both the Education section of the application AND the Work Experience section of the application and thoroughly document, in detail, that they possess the following:

High School or General Educational Development Diploma
and
one year of related work experience;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Special Condition(s) for Continued Employment:
As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be pro-rated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is NOT eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
  • the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
  • or, DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

This Sign-On Bonus is contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
