Job summary

Friendsofkerhonkson is seeking a Life Enrichment Assistant to work closely with the Life Enrichment Therapist. You will design and lead engaging activities across arts and crafts, outdoor activities, exercise, and events to meet participants’ social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs.

You will support scheduling, assist with outings, and help create monthly calendars while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team in a healthcare setting focused on the elderly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a social or recreational program in a healthcare setting.
• Effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of computers and technology systems.
• Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia education is a plus.
• Event-planning experience is a plus.
• Able to engage participants in leisure activities.
• Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

SUMMARY:The Life Enrichment Assistant assist and work directly with the Life Enrichment Therapist helping participants engage in meaningful day center activities. Activities are not limited but may include arts and crafts, outdoor activities, exercise, music and other special activities/events.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:Lead and facilitate group and individualized programming and activities for participant that are designed to meet the social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs and interest of each participant.Assist with escorting participants to activities and community outings.Assist in the development of the monthly activities calendar and special events.Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:At a minimum high school diploma or equivalent exam.Minimum of 1 year experience in a social or recreational program, of which was full time in an activities/life enrichment program in a healthcare setting for the elderly. Activity Assistant Certification is a plus from a recognizing body such as NCCAP, or NAPPCC is plus.Must possess effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.Proficient in the use of computer and technology systems.Must be very outgoing, energetic, and able to engage participants in leisure activities.Professional conduct, high-achiever, emotionally intelligent/and aware.Able to engage with large room volumes.Education of Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia is a plus.Event-planning experience is a plus.Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
