Job summary

Sequoia Living in Walnut Creek, CA seeks a Life Enrichment Assistant to plan and implement activities that support social, emotional, and physical well-being of residents. You will organize calendars, coordinate materials, assist with assessments and records, arrange transportation, and guide volunteers under the Director of Life Enrichment.

Responsibilities

  • Implements programs to meet the individual needs and group participation of residents.
  • Maintains inventory of materials and supplies to complete activities.
  • Prepares and posts a monthly calendar of activities and communicates with residents and families.
  • Assists with assessments and maintaining records, plans, reports, and evaluations of the program and resident participation.
  • Sets up and breaks down furniture configurations, audiovisual, and other activity-related equipment.
  • Assists with conducting activities and accompanies residents to activities.
  • Schedules and coordinates locations and transportation for outings.
  • Coordinates with volunteers and vendors under the Director of Life Enrichment.
  • Reports concerns regarding residents' status to management.

Job description

We are looking for an individual who assists in planning, organizing, and implementing programs and activities which encourage the social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual development of residents. What You Will Do:
  • Implements programs to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the residents, both on an individual basis and in group participation throughout the community.
  • Assists in making provisions for materials and supplies. Maintains the inventory of materials and supplies sufficient to complete activities as needed.
  • Prepares and posts a monthly calendar of activities. Communicate with residents and family members on an ongoing basis regarding activities and information.
  • Assists with assessments and maintaining up-to-date records, plans, reports, and evaluations of the program and resident participation and functioning.
  • Sets up and breaks down furniture configurations, audiovisual, and other activities-related equipment.
  • Assists with conducting activities and/or participates in activities while remaining engaged during the activity. Assists residents to and from their rooms to activities.
  • Assist in scheduling and confirming locations and transportation for outings. Contacts and coordinates with outside vendors or groups as needed.
  • Assists in providing direction to volunteers and vendors as directed by the Director of Life Enrichment.
  • Recognizes and reports concerns regarding residents' physical, mental, and/or emotional status to a member of the Management Staff.
Why Work Here:
  • $23.78 - $27.94/hr, Tuesday – Saturday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • For individuals who work more than 30 hrs/week, employer-paid medical, dental & vision, 18 days PTO + 8 holidays, 403(b) with employer contribution, tuition assistance, referral bonuses, employee discounts, and growth opportunities.
Who You Are:
  • You enjoy working with people and have interpersonal skills.
  • You can use tact and courtesy in dealing with residents under sometimes trying conditions. You can show patience and understanding.
  • You like your days to be varied, can handle a fast-paced environment, and don’t mind working under pressure.
  • Knowledge of OBRA regulations, Title 22 and Division 5 and 6 California Administrative Code in regard to the provision of activities and social services. Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues related to an aging population. Knowledge of bereavement, grief and loss management theory and practice. Basic knowledge of exercise and other equipment used in activities. Knowledge of programs and activities appropriate for residents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate ideas and instructions to residents and staff. Discretion and sound judgment skills to determine the extent of a resident’s ability to participate in activities. Good English written and verbal communication skills. Organizational and analytical skills to plan and complete work assignments with minimal supervision and within established deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task, plan, organize, and instruct others. Ability to chart goals, approach, and progress of residents. Ability to comprehend and follow safety procedures and respond properly to accidents and/or injuries. Ability to act with patience, tact and courtesy in dealing with residents, their families, staff and vendors under demanding and difficult conditions. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to quickly learn other software applications. Physical skills and ability to perform work that requires continual standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
