The City of Roanoke's Roanoke Fire-EMS Department seeks a Lieutenant/Assistant Fire Marshal to serve as a fire inspector and investigator for an assigned zone, enforcing the Statewide Fire Prevention Code and supporting fire investigations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with formal fire prevention training and origin/investigation methods.
• 3–5 years of related experience in fire prevention, suppression, EMS and arson investigation or equivalent education/experience.
• Ability to obtain required certifications; bilingual applicants encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Enforces the Statewide Fire Prevention Code and City Fire Prevention Code through inspections and investigations.
• Provides fire code interpretations and public consultations on safety practices.
• Delivers public fire and life safety education to the community.
• Investigates origin and causes of fires and provides testimony in investigations.
• Conducts criminal investigations relating to arson, explosions, or related incidents.
• Assists in extinguishing fires and related EMS operations; on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.
• May indirectly supervise fire investigators.
