Job summary

Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue is seeking two Fire Prevention Inspectors to join their team. You will conduct fire prevention inspections and deliver safety education for Shenandoah Combined Fire & Rescue, ensuring compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Virginia Uniform Statewide Fire Prevention Code.

Work is under the Deputy Fire Chief / Fire Marshal. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with preferred experience in fire inspection; NFPA 1031

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; experience in fire inspection preferred.
• Must obtain Fire Inspector I NFPA 1031 within 180 days of hire.
• Must obtain Fire & Safety Education NFPA 1035 within 9 months of hire.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license upon hire or within 30 days for out-of-state candidates.

Responsibilities

• Perform occupancy and use inspections and identify code violations.
• Develop and present fire safety programs and evacuation plans.
• Review building plans for code compliance.
• Respond to inquiries from the public and contractors.
• Perform testing of fire prevention systems/sprinklers and maintain records.
