The State of South Carolina seeks a Security Supervisor to oversee inmate security and staff performance in a medium/maximum security facility. Responsibilities include directing security actions, ensuring compliance with standards, investigating incidents, and supervising staff. Candidates must have significant experience in correctional settings and complete required training upon hire.
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody, and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate populations and correctional staff.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
A degree in Criminal Justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate degree and above = 1 year).
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entering the position.
