The Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame seeks a skilled and collaborative professional for the position of Licensing Librarian. The Licensing Librarian plays a vital role in ensuring that the University of Notre Dame Hesburgh Libraries have access to a diverse range of scholarly content by serving as the Libraries’ expert on agreements with content providers, publishers, and other related service providers. As a member of the Electronic Resources Department in the Digital Strategies and Technology Division, the incumbent takes an active role in meeting departmental goals, upholding service standards, and setting best practices that ensure high quality patron access to the electronic resources collection.
The Licensing Librarian is responsible for providing leadership and expertise in managing all aspects of library electronic resources licensing, serves as the Hesburgh Libraries’ primary contact with the University’s General Counsel regarding resource license negotiation and interpretation, and is responsible for advising the Head of Electronic Resources, the Head of Academic Collections & Services, and other colleagues by reviewing and recommending approval or changes in terms that align with evolving service needs and campus requirements. The Licensing Librarian supports the procurement, licensing, renewal, and maintenance of electronic resources for the Hesburgh Libraries in a multifaceted, team-based environment. They communicate and build relationships with vendors and publishers, evaluate electronic resources, and maintain acquisition and license records in library systems. The Licensing Librarian works closely with colleagues across the library and campus to answer questions related to acceptable use of electronic resources.
