Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assists the physician in clinics and ensures provider orders are completed.
• Prepares rooms, patient charts, and patients for provider visits.
• Collects samples for laboratory examination and performs routine laboratory tests.
• Administers vaccines and screening tests under supervision per CDC guidelines and clinic policies.
• Follows up on vaccine reactions and takes appropriate precautions for each vaccine.
• Assists nurses and providers with health education, treatments, and procedures.
• Completes appropriate paperwork.
• Maintains supplies and equipment for diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and participates as part of an interprofessional health care team.
• Inspects incoming medications and ensures proper storage.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Scope of Job:

To provide assistance to the professional nursing staff andphysicians at the clinical area assigned. Responsible for assistingin the treatment and care of patients not requiring thespecialization and/or skills of a professional nurse.

Description of Duties:

• Assists the physician in the clinics as appropriate for patient'sneeds to include ensuring provider's orders are completed inappropriate manner.
• Prepares rooms for clinic, prepares patient's charts and patientsto be seen by the provider.
• Collects samples for laboratory examination and performs routinelaboratory tests on samples.
• Administers vaccines and screening tests under supervision asrecommended by the CDC (Center for Disease Control) guidelines andclinical area policies.
• Follows up on all persons with reactions to vaccines and uses theappropriate precautions including the methods of administration andknowledge of side effects for each vaccine.
• Assists registered nurses and providers with health education,treatments, and procedures.
• Completes appropriate paperwork.
• Ensures adequate levels of supplies and equipment are maintainedfor diagnostic and treatment procedures.
• Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
• Participates as a member of an interprofessional health careteam.
• Inspects incoming medication for and provides properstorage.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

May provide minimal supervision to assigned staff.

Required Education:

High school graduation or equivalent. Graduate of an accreditedLicensed Vocational Nurse program from an approved school ofNursing.

Licenses/Certifications:

Current Texas Licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Basic LifeSupport (BLS) certification course accredited by the American HeartAssociation

Required Experience:

One (1) year of experience in vocational nursing.

Equipment:

Use of standard office equipment and equipment related tovocational nursing. Telemedicine and related equipment.

Working Conditions:

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Usualoffice or clinical ambulatory patient care facility conditions.Some evening and /or weekend work may be required.

Professionalism, Tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentialityof medical information required in all matters. Possible exposureto combustible materials. Possible exposure to blood-bornepathogens.
