Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group seeks a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) to join our Torrance, CA team on an on-call schedule with AM, PM or overnight coverage. The role focuses on administering medications, wound care, and routine nursing assessments in a 24/7 inpatient setting for adolescents.

Qualifications include an active California LVN or LPT license and at least one year of relevant experience or 40 hours of on-the-job training; medication

Qualifications

• Active, valid California LVN or LPT license.
• 1 year experience with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children OR 40 hours of regulatory on-the-job training.
• Preferred: 1 year of medication administration experience and an associate's degree.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct client care including administration of medications and wound care.
• Performs nursing assessments on new clients and when required.
• Maintains milieu safety to ensure quality care and secure operations.
• Collaborates with physicians and social workers to obtain informed consent for medications.
• Orders and tracks meds and ensures implementation of physician orders.

Completes nursing assessments on new clients and when clients require such assessments. Maintains vigilance over the general milieu within the facility to facilitate quality client care, optimum facility operations and preserve the safety of all therein. Work with physicians and social workers to secure informed consent for medication from parents, courts, conservators, etc. Take physician orders for medications denial of rights, medical procedures, lab work, x-rays, etc. and make sure each order is implemented. Visually and audibly observes physical and psychiatric conditions and reports changes to the Charge RN or the Psychiatrist or other Medical Doctor on call in the absence of the Charge RN or DON.
