Job Summary

Position available for Morning, Evening, and Night shifts across multiple homes. Eligible for additional pay on evenings, nights, and/or weekends. Provides advanced vocational nursing care for individuals with complex medical, mental health, and behavioral health needs at Lubbock State Supported Living Center.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime. May serve in an on‑call status on a rotating schedule as required. Administers medications, performs rounds, provides complex nursing procedures (e.g., tracheostomy, gastrostomy, wound care), collects lab specimens, monitors vital signs, documents in electronic health record, and collaborates with interdisciplinary team. Trains new LVN staff, participates in quality assurance initiatives, responds to emergencies, and performs additional duties such as infection control assistance and disaster response support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, procedures, and patient care principles.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, CPR, and ability to assess and care in emergencies.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws related to State Supported Living Center (ICF‑IID) rules.
  • Skills in problem identification and resolution.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Patient care skills.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, evaluate nursing activities, interpret policies and regulations, recognize patterns of medical necessity, plan, assign, and oversee work of others.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide care to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and behavioral health issues.
  • Ability to maintain records and use electronic health record systems.
  • Strong communication and instructional skills.
  • Current CPR certification and physical capability for CPR.
Registrations, Licensure, or Certifications

Licensed to practice as a licensed vocational nurse in Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Initial Screening Criteria
  • Graduation from an LVN program.
  • At least 6 months prior employment experience as an LVN (12 months preferred).
  • Experience working or volunteering with persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities (preferred).
  • Experience training or teaching others (preferred).
  • Experience using an electronic health record system (preferred).
Additional Information

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males 18–25 must register with Selective Service. All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.
