The Travis County Juvenile Probation Department is accepting applications for full-time Licensed Vocational Nurse positions in our Medical Services unit. These positions are critical to ensure that 24/7 medical operations are maintained to promote quality of care to juvenile clients through assessment, medication management, and direct client care.

Shift Differential Pay ($4.40/hour) is available for any weekend hours worked and hours worked between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on weekdays.

Job Responsibilities

1. Evaluate total health care needs of patients and develop plans to meet those needs under clinical and administrative supervision.
2. Provide or arrange for medical treatment for patients.
3. May provide clinical supervision to Certified Nursing Assistants.

About Our Agency

The mission of the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department (TCJPD) is to provide for public safety by effectively addressing the needs of juveniles, families, and the victims of crime. TCJPD utilizes a comprehensive continuum of care including victim mediation, supervision, education, substance abuse services, treatment programs, counseling, and aftercare. They employ trauma-informed mental health assessments and collaborate with community partners to ensure targeted interventions.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the second of five nursing-related classifications within the Medical job family, practicing under supervision and performing nursing duties of moderate complexity. It is distinguished from higher nursing roles by the level of independence and the scope of responsibilities. May require work in secure facilities and a flexible schedule.

• Respond to patients' medical needs and provide treatment according to protocols.
• Consult with staff on healthcare issues.
• Respond to emergent illnesses and injuries.
• Provide direct health care including wound care, medication, vital signs, and lab procedures.
• Assist other medical staff as required.
• Practice safety, infection control, and document patient information.
• Inventory medications and assist in clinic settings.
• Answer medical questions and process patient intake.
• Assist with activities of daily living as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program and one year of LVN experience.

Licenses and Certifications: Current LVN license in Texas and CPR certification.

• Knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare laws, and treatment protocols.
• Skill in patient care, medication administration, and medical documentation.
