Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse for the Medical Surgical department on the night shift. This full-time position involves 12-hour shifts from 7:00pm to 7:00am, on-site in Harlingen, Texas, under RN supervision.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state license is required.
• BLS certification must be current upon hire.
• IV certification required upon hire (state specific).

Responsibilities

• Measure and record blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and toileting.
• Assist with turning, positioning, and ambulating patients to prevent bedsores and promote recovery.
• Observe patients for side effects or adverse reactions to medications and report findings to an RN or physician.
• Monitor patients for changes in condition (e.g., pain levels, skin color, or behavior).
• Recognize early warning signs of complications and report them to an RN or physician.
• Prepare patients for tests or procedures by ensuring they understand the process and are physically ready.
• Teach patients and families about basic post-discharge care, such as wound care, medication schedules, and managing chronic conditions.
• Work under the supervision of RNs and report directly to them regarding patient care issues
