Job summary

Licensed Veterinary Technician (Swing Shift) – Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists – Bohemia

PetVet Care Centers’ Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists – Bohemia is seeking Licensed Veterinary Technicians (Swing Shift) to join our team.

Position Overview

As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, you will support hospital operations by providing dedicated, quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include assessing animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, nursing care, feeding and animal care, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and patient discharge, and maintaining medical records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct examinations, interviews, and diagnostic imaging; complete laboratory tests and studies.
  • Take vital signs, collect samples, administer medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandage wounds.
  • Assist with patient examinations and surgeries by preparing instruments, securing patients, and restraining them as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Apply full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment, and drug administration.
  • Obtain and verify medications; full documentation and security of controlled substances.
  • Ensure patients have food and water; keep rooms, cages, and equipment clean; monitor clinical signs of disease.
  • Fill prescriptions and administer medications as directed, with proper documentation.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing instruments, sanitizing holding and operating areas, and following legal regulations.
  • Document patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update databases accurately and timely.
  • Communicate patient status to owners as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Maintain equipment: follow operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs.
  • Maintain inventory, place orders for supplies, verify receipts.
  • Update job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional journals.
  • Release pets to owners when directed; ensure animals are clean and groomed.
  • Follow oral and written directions from management and the practice.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Manager or practice.
Qualifications (Required)
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) required.
  • Must have emergency experience.

Thursday through Sunday, 4 PM – 4 AM

Pay Range

$32.73 – $40.01 USD
