Full-Time Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift) – Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists – Bohemia

PetVet Care Centers' Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists – Bohemia is currently seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Assistant (Day Shift) to join their team.

Position Overview: Support veterinarians and technicians in daily tasks including cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. Deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and owners upon arrival and take patient weight and vital signs
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed veterinary technicians (LVT)
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment (EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, etc.)
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain documentation, logging, and controlled drug security
• Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, and report conditions or behaviors
• Communicate positively with clients and ensure they feel comfortable
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
• Maintain hospital cleanliness and equipment hygiene, ensure safe chemical use, and complete laundry
• Bath and care for overnight patients, ensuring they are groomed before release
• Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations
• Follow oral and written directions
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Show up for work regularly; full‑time presence at work is essential for every shift
• Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
• Respond promptly to directions from DVM or LVT
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager; may include specialty areas (dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine, etc.)

Schedule

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7 AM – 7 PM

Pay Range: $19.55 – $23.89 USD
