Job summary

Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview, NY is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the Neurology team. This full-time position features a four-day workweek and a schedule of 8:00 AM–6:30 PM, with occasional weekends as needed.

You will support advanced diagnostics, anesthesia, imaging, and complex patient care, collaborating with veterinarians and technicians to deliver top-tier specialty care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Neurologist with examinations, diagnostics, and patient care.
  • Prepare and monitor patients for MRI, CT, spinal taps, and neurosurgical procedures.
  • Induction, monitoring, and recovery of anesthesia for advanced procedures.
  • Provide nursing care for hospitalized neurology patients.
  • Document medical records and collaborate with the team to ensure quality care.
  • Support workflow, inventory, and quality control within the department.
  • Communicate with clients about care plans and treatment options.

Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our Neurology team in Plainview, NY. Responsibilities

As a LVT on the Neurology team, you will work closely with the Neurologist and specialty team to support advanced diagnostics, procedures, treatment plans, and patient care.

  • Assist the Neurologist with examinations, diagnostics, treatment planning, and patient care
  • Prepare and monitor patients undergoing MRI, CT, spinal taps, and neurosurgical procedures
  • Perform anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for advanced procedures
  • Provide nursing care and oversight for hospitalized neurology patients
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Obtain patient histories and assist with client education
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding patient care and treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
  • Assist with departmental workflow, inventory management, and quality control initiatives
  • Collaborate with Veterinary Technicians, veterinarians, assistants, and other specialty and emergency services to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Support LIVS' commitment to high-quality specialty and emergency veterinary medicine
Qualifications
  • Current New York State Veterinary Technician License (LVT) required
  • Passion for specialty medicine and exceptional patient care
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented animal hospital environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities
  • Professional, reliable, and compassionate approach to patient and client care
  • Confidence in client communication and education
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, assistants, and client service teams
  • Anesthesia monitoring and surgical assistance experience preferred
  • Neurology, advanced imaging, or specialty medicine experience is a plus
  • Flexibility to support occasional weekend scheduling as needed
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout extended shifts
  • Ability to safely lift and restrain animals weighing up to 40 pounds independently and heavier patients with assistance
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills necessary to operate medical equipment and assist with procedures
  • Ability to remain focused and responsive in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital environment
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and communication skills to monitor patient status and respond appropriately
  • Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
