Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health, part of the NVA Group, is seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT) for Medical Oncology at the Short Pump location in VA. This full-time position features 4x10 shifts, Monday through Thursday, 8am to 6pm, with a compensation of $30-$40 per hour based on experience.

You will perform advanced medical, diagnostic, and laboratory procedures under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, support chemotherapy administration, manage patient care, and help

Qualifications

  • Certified, Registered, or Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT/RVT/LVT).
  • Specialty experience required.
  • Demonstrated strong technical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient vitals and report any abnormalities to DVM.
  • Perform advanced medical, diagnostic, and laboratory procedures under supervision.
  • Administer chemotherapy and anesthesia-related duties as directed by veterinarians.
  • Ensure proper medical record documentation and client communication.
  • Follow OSHA protocols and ensure safety on shift.

Licensed Veterinary Technician Responsibilities
  • Obtain patient vitals and report any abnormalities to DVM.
  • Above average venipuncture skills (failure to meet DVM safety standards will directly correlate with ability to function in the department.)
  • Collecting diagnostic samples, imaging, and non-laboratory diagnostics (BP, EKG, SPO2) for analysis while understanding normal parameter markers to help facilitate in next steps of diagnostic preparation and communication to Veterinarians.
  • Facilitate proper procedure for collecting and submitting diagnostic samples to outside laboratories.
  • Assist in placement and maintenance of intravenous catheters.
  • Assist Veterinarians in all aspects during chemotherapy administration and procedures from developing anesthetic protocol, administration of pre-medications and induction agents, intubation, surgical prep, maintenance and monitoring of general anesthesia, assist in surgical procedure as needed, recovery care of patients post anesthetic episodes, proper medical documentation of anesthesia monitoring, and understanding side effects of anesthetic agents being administered.
  • Understanding and able to follow protocol when administering and documenting controlled substances administered to patients.
  • Calculate and administer IV Chemotherapy medications.
  • Practicing patient and empathetic client service skills when communicating with clients at all stages of their visit, such as when triaging, discharging, or providing medical updates on hospitalized patients.
  • Properly discharge patients by filling all required medications, ensuring patients are clean and comfortable, removing intravenous catheters, approving final invoices, and reviewing discharges with pet owners.
  • Understanding and able to perform proper medical record documentation in accordance with hospital policy and the board of veterinary medical standards.
  • Conducting yourself in a professional manner each shift while providing continued support to your team members, patients, and clients.
  • Following proper OSHA protocols and ensure OSHA related trainings are conducted by designated timelines to ensure a safe work environment for yourself and team members.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by leadership and direct supervisors while on shift.
