Job summary

University of Georgia is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician I to join the Small Animal Specialty Services Oncology unit in Athens. The role provides high-quality nursing care across medical and radiation oncology, including anesthesia, chemotherapy support, and patient management.

Under supervision, the LVT operates LINAC and imaging systems, assists with CT simulation and treatment planning, and maintains safety protocols. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and valid state licensure.
• Holds a current Georgia Veterinary Technician license, or is able to obtain licensure within 6 months of the start of employment.
• Able to handle animals for treatments.
• Experience in a multi-service animal care hospital/practice.
• Phlebotomy on small or large animals.
• Manually calculating basic formulas for weight conversions, medication dose conversions.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced nursing care for oncology patients, including anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
• Operate and assist with the linear accelerator (LINAC) and associated imaging after training; perform patient positioning and immobilization.
• Assist Medical Oncology Service with chemotherapy appointments, treatments, and patient care as staffing allows.
• Support patient education and documentation; ensure safety and quality assurance per protocols.
