BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NY seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician for our Emergency + ICU teams. The role includes anesthesia management, triage of emergencies, and radiography with a focus on patient safety.

You will monitor vitals, perform procedures like phlebotomy and IV catheter placement, and mentor colleagues while delivering compassionate care to clients.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in good standing.
• Emergency/ICU experience preferred; strong critical care skills.
• Ability to monitor anesthesia and manage perioperative care.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals including temperature, HR, RR and BP.
• Perform digital radiography with proper positioning and technique.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and interpret changes for the Veterinarian.
• Calculate medical dosages and administer medications appropriately.
• Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement in peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Midtown, NY is seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency + ICU departments.

*This position is eligible for up to a $7,500 sign-on bonus*

Schedule:

Thurs-Sat, 7a-7p

Pay:

$28.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $+8.00/hr. Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
