Job summary

Petco is seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician for our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital in New York. The role focuses on delivering high-quality veterinary care and exceptional client service within a collaborative team.

You will assist veterinarians, manage patient care from intake to discharge, and support hospital operations while maintaining compassionate interactions with pets and their owners.

Qualifications

• College or college-equivalent education as required to become Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the state.
• At least 1 year of prior experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and maintain a professional demeanor under stress.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins, escort to exam room, record history.
• Assist veterinarian with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia as directed.
• Perform patient restraint, collect lab samples, handle and dispense medications, maintain medical records.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, update inventory and patient records.
• Prepare patients for procedures, monitor anesthetized patients, record vital parameters, and assist with discharge.
• Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, administer medications, and assist with IV therapies; keep patients fed and clean.
• Participate in training of new staff and disseminate knowledge as required.
• Perform additional duties and backup front desk support as needed.
