Job description

MSA Security is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join its Canine Wellness and Support mission in Winchester, Virginia, working within our AAHA-accredited hospital. The candidate should be able to work independently with minimal supervision to provide exceptional care for an in-house working canine population. Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt in high-stress situations are essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in specialty, emergency critical care, or surgical/anesthesia practices. They should also be capable of effectively communicating and teaching foreign individuals and work well within a team. The environment emphasizes work/life balance and quality medicine.

Responsibilities:
  1. Under the direction of a licensed veterinarian, treat canines for various diseases/injuries and provide preventative/maintenance care (e.g., vaccinations, laboratory sample collection, etc.).
  2. Utilize in-house imaging modalities, such as digital radiographs and ultrasound; perform studies and assist with interpretation of results.
  3. Train and present veterinary information to host-nation veterinary personnel, canine handlers, trainers, and other stakeholders regarding injury triage, prevention, and zoonoses.
  4. Maintain veterinary records using a cloud-based, working-dog-specific electronic medical record system, generate reports, and track data.
  5. Provide veterinary expertise and inspections for facilities used to kennel working dog populations.
  6. Work effectively in a team environment while also maintaining the ability to work independently.
  7. Communicate and consult with other veterinary teams supporting canine missions in remote locations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a current Veterinary Technician Certificate from an accredited university
  • Active technician license (LVT, RVT, CVT, or equivalent) in at least one U.S. State
  • U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport
  • Ability to maintain or already possess a minimum SECRET level clearance
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a Vet Tech in private practice or the US military
  • Recognition of other animal technology licenses and certifications if minimum experience requirements are met
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to work independently with excellent decision-making skills in medical emergency and combat-related settings.
  • Knowledge of anesthesia, surgery, laboratory procedures, pharmacology, radiology, cardiology, and canine rehabilitation.
  • Experience with a microchip program that scans, reads, and tracks canines.
