Job summary

Suffern Animal Hospital is seeking a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) to join our two-doctor, full-service practice in New York. This role focuses on anesthesia, dentistry, diagnostics, and client education within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

  • Current NY LVT credential in good standing.
  • Graduate of an AAS Vet Tech program or higher.
  • Proficient in venipuncture and IV catheter placement.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Induction and monitoring of anesthesia; ensure safe recovery.
  • Perform dental cleanings and dental radiographs.
  • Obtain radiographs, run in-house labs, and assist with imaging.
  • Educate clients and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Participate in advanced imaging and ICU care.

What Our Veterinary Technicians (LVT) Do

As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, you’ll work closely with our veterinarians and support team throughout all aspects of patient care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Performing anesthesia induction
  • Monitoring patients throughout anesthesia
  • Supporting safe and comfortable anesthetic recovery
  • Performing dental cleanings
  • Obtaining digital dental radiographs
  • Placing and managing IV catheters
  • Managing fluid pumps and CRI medications
  • Performing venipuncture and collecting blood samples
  • Collecting urine and culture samples
  • Running in‑house laboratory samples and diagnostics
  • Providing care for hospitalized and intensive care patients
  • Obtaining diagnostic radiographs
  • Supporting ultrasound procedures
  • Assisting with cystocentesis and focal ultrasound procedures
  • Performing nerve blocks
  • Preparing patients and equipment for surgical procedures
  • Operating and assisting with advanced imaging equipment, including HDVI CT
  • Conducting technician appointments
  • Handling patient intake and discharge
  • Educating clients about treatments, medications, procedures, and home care
  • Providing appropriate client follow‑up
  • Maintaining accurate patient medical records
  • Collaborating with veterinarians and fellow team members to keep patient care moving efficiently
