Job summary

Allianceanimalhealth is seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our veterinary team in Roanoke, Virginia. The ideal candidate holds an active VT license and has at least 1 year of professional experience, with eligibility to transfer or obtain VA licensure if not currently licensed in VA.

You will perform anesthesia administration, surgical monitoring, radiographic positioning, lab analyses, and client communication while maintaining high animal welfare standards in a fast-paced

Qualifications

  • Must have an active Licensed Veterinary Technician license and at least 1 year of professional experience.
  • If not licensed in VA, eligible for VA license transfer or acquisition.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays due to Emergency Medicine setting.
  • 18 years or older requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Restrain animals safely and provide nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases.
  • Collect and analyze lab samples; perform diagnostic imaging as needed.
  • Administer medications and assist in anesthesia management.
  • Prepare and assist in surgical procedures; monitor anesthesia.
  • Communicate treatment plans effectively with clients and maintain medical records.

Job description

Job duties include, but are not limited to: Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

We're Looking For:
  • A Licensed Veterinary Technician with an active license required, 1+ year professional experience required. If not currently licensed in VA, applicants must be eligible for license acquisition or transfer.
  • Due to the nature of Emergency Medicine, this position requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Experience and familiarity with anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts.
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations.
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques.
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens.
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards.
