Job summary

Zoetis seeks a licensed Veterinary Technician to provide animal research support at the Kalamazoo and Richland sites. The role focuses on companion animals, with duties spanning clinical rounds, training, and specialized procedures in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities include medical case management, anesthesia support, species-specific observations, and data recording in EMR systems. Travel between sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Veterinary Technician program (2- or 4-year) and LVT license in at least one state; ability to become licensed in Michigan within first year.
• Ability to wear PPE such as N95 respirators, eye/ear protection.
• 2+ years of industry or private practice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inventory control and medical case management.
• Colony diet/weight management and preventive health scheduling.
• Daily observations and data entry in EMR or study data.
• Attend Veterinary Service meetings and clinical rounds.
• Training of animal care technicians for companion animals.
• Perform technical procedures (blood draws, IV catheterization, euthanasia/necropsy support, in-house lab work).
• Lab/equipment maintenance and regulated paperwork.

Job description

Role Description

This position is responsible for providing animal research technician support in a Pharmaceutical research environment at the Zoetis Kalamazoo and Richland site(s). Primary species of responsibility are companion animals (canine/feline) but could include other species (rodent/poultry/bovine/swine/equine). The Licensed Veterinary Technician will be in Animal Research Support, as a part of the Veterinary Services team.

Responsibilities

• Inventory control
• Medical case management
• Colony diet and weight management
• Colony preventive health management, scheduling and administration
• Daily detailed observations and recording in electronic medical records or as raw study data
• Attendance at Veterinary Service meetings
• Attendance and participation in clinical rounds
• Working on miscellaneous projects for veterinary service
• Regulatory paperwork as needed
• Dental and surgical procedures including all pre-operative preparation, perioperative and post-operative care and monitoring on animals
• Anesthesia monitoring
• Training of animal care technicians for companion animal observations, husbandry and procedures
• Technical procedures include but are not limited to: blood draws on companion animal species, urine collection, TPR and triage examination, IV catheterization, fluid admiration, hospitalization and ICU care, euthanasia and necropsy support, diagnostic testing including in house bloodwork, fecal exams and urinalysis
• Study specific procedures may include but are not limited to: administration of IVP, monitoring of animals, surgical support for surgical models, sedation or anesthesia support for models, blood collection
• Lab and veterinary equipment maintenance
• Controlled substance inventory management

Requirements

• Completion of a Veterinary Technician program through a 2- or 4-year program, (LVT) licensed to practice in at least one state with the ability to become licensed in Michigan within the first year.
• Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as N95 respirators, ear/eye protection, etc.
• 2 plus years of industry or private practice experience is preferred.

Highly Desired Skills / Attributes

• Previous clinical experience in a research setting as an LVT.
• Experience in training veterinary technical staff.

Additional Information

Travel between sites may be required as needed for site coverage.

Work Environment

May be required to work with zoonotic animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of zoonotic organisms and working in both ABSL-2 facilities requiring showering in/out procedures.
