Job summary

Peta’s mobile spay and neuter clinic is seeking a Virginia-licensed veterinary technician to support high-volume surgery operations. The role requires handling controlled substances, maintaining patient records, and communicating test results to the attending veterinarian.

You will prepare animals for surgery, administer anesthesia, monitor patients through recovery, and drive the mobile clinic to various sites.

Qualifications

• Virginia veterinary technician license is required.
• Experience with controlled-substance inventory is required.
• Ability to work independently and exercise discretion.
• Must be able to handle confidential information.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-op physical exams and vaccines for clinic patients.
• Maintain complete medical records.
• Assess test results and communicate with attending veterinarian.
• Prepare animals for surgery and administer anesthesia drugs.
• Monitor anesthesia and patient recovery; assess readiness for discharge.
• Maintain controlled-drug inventory and records.
• Comply with Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine and DEA regulations.
• Drive mobile clinic to designated sites.
• Communicate post-operative care and diagnostic results to clients.
• Maintain medical equipment maintenance programs.
