Job summary

Hope Haven of East Texas is a faith-based nonprofit providing trauma-informed mental health services for children and families in foster care. The Therapist delivers individual, family, and group therapy within the Family Solutions program.

You will collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, complete assessments and treatment plans, maintain HIPAA-compliant records, and support caregivers to enhance placement stability and treatment outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in social work, counseling, psychology, or related behavioral health field.
  • Must hold a current Texas license in good standing as LCSW, LPC, or LMFT.
  • Independent licensure to provide clinical mental health services without supervision.
  • Minimum of two years of therapeutic experience with children, adolescents, or families.
  • Experience with foster care, residential treatment, kinship care, adoption, or reunification preferred.
  • Trauma-informed and evidence-based mental health treatment experience preferred.
  • Maintain active licensure and credentialing requirements for services.
  • Meet Medicaid/contracting credentialing requirements when providing services.

Responsibilities

THERAPIST

REPORTS TO: Director of Family Solutions

Department: Family Solutions

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or another related behavioral health field.
  • 2. Must hold a current, unrestricted Texas license in good standing as one of the following:
  • o Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • o Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • o Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • 3. Must be independently licensed to provide clinical mental health and psychotherapy services without requiring clinical supervision for licensure.
  • 4. Minimum of two years of therapeutic experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and/or families preferred.
  • 5. Experience working with children and adolescents involved in foster care, residential treatment, child welfare, kinship care, adoption, or reunification is strongly preferred.
  • 6. Experience providing trauma-informed and evidence-based mental health treatment is preferred.
  • 7. Must maintain active professional licensure in good standing throughout employment and meet all applicable credentialing requirements for services provided through Family Solutions.
  • 8. Must meet applicable Medicaid, managed care organization, contractual, and program credentialing requirements when providing reimbursable behavioral health services.

Primary Purpose: The Therapist provides trauma-informed, evidence-based mental health services through Hope Haven's Family Solutions program

GENRAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Clinical Services
  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy according to client needs and treatment recommendations.
  • Utilize trauma-informed and evidence-based therapeutic approaches appropriate to the client’s diagnosis, developmental level, strengths, and treatment goals.
  • Therapeutic approaches may include CBT, TF-CBT, DBT-informed interventions, EMDR when appropriately trained, Motivational Interviewing, and other evidence-supported interventions.
  • Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries and provide culturally responsive, client-centered services.
  • Monitor client progress and modify therapeutic interventions as clinically appropriate.
2. Assessment & Treatment Planning
  • Complete clinical assessments and other required screenings within the therapist's scope of practice.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on identified needs, strengths, diagnoses, and client/family goals.
  • Review and update treatment plans according to agency, payer, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in discharge and transition planning to promote continuity of care.
3. Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, discharge documentation, and other required clinical records accurately and within established Family Solutions timelines.
  • Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and services provided.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, professional licensing requirements, Medicaid requirements when applicable, agency policies, contracts, and applicable state regulations.
  • Participate in documentation reviews, quality assurance activities, and corrective actions when necessary.
4. Family & Caregiver Engagement
  • Engage biological parents, foster parents, kinship caregivers, adoptive families, residential staff, and other identified supports when clinically appropriate.
  • Provide education and therapeutic support to caregivers to strengthen placement stability and treatment outcomes.
  • Coordinate with caregivers and treatment team members while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and release of information.
5. Multidisciplinary Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Family Solutions staff, Behavior Support services, Medication Education/Nursing services, residential programs, case managers, child placing agencies, schools, medical providers, and other community partners as appropriate.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, Clinical Circle meetings, staffings, and other interdisciplinary meetings as assigned.
  • Communicate significant clinical concerns to appropriate leadership and treatment team members.
6. Crisis & Safety Support
  • Assess and respond appropriately to safety concerns that arise during the course of therapeutic services.
  • Complete appropriate safety planning and follow agency protocols regarding suicidal ideation, self-harm, abuse/neglect, threats of harm, and other clinical concerns.
  • Provide consultation to program staff regarding client behavioral or emotional needs when clinically appropriate.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements and professional ethical standards.
7. Training & Professional Development
  • Complete all training required by Hope Haven, Family Solutions, applicable contracts, licensing standards, and professional licensing boards.
  • Maintain continuing education and professional licensure requirements.
  • Participate in clinical consultation and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide clinical education or training to Hope Haven staff when requested and appropriate to the therapist's expertise.
8. Community & Organizational Engagement
  • Maintain professional relationships with referral sources, community providers, schools, child welfare partners, and other organizations serving children and families.
  • Participate in Family Solutions outreach, community education, and program development activities as assigned.
  • Represent Hope Haven of East Texas professionally and consistently with the organization's mission and values.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

The Therapist must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence-based behavioral health practices.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Understanding of the unique needs of children and families involved in foster care, kinship care, adoption, reunification, and residential services.
  • Strong clinical judgment and crisis-assessment skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to establish appropriate therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Ability to manage a clinical caseload and competing responsibilities effectively.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, mandated reporting, professional ethics, and applicable licensing requirements.
  • Ability to adapt to changing client, program, and organizational needs.
