Responsibilities

• Provides services within the scope of practice as defined by state laws and plan of care, in coordination with the health care team.
• Evaluates the patient's function using diagnostic and prognostic tests and assists in developing the therapy plan of care.
• Treats patients to improve communication by adapting to the patient's condition and using appropriate standards of practice.
• Observes, records, and reports patient responses to treatment and changes in condition to the supervising nurse or physician.
• Instructs the patient, family, and caregiver in speech therapy to enable participation in treatment.
