Job summary

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital is seeking a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) to provide safe, supervised care under an RN.

The role emphasizes bedside observation, emotional support, and crisis response to maximize patient comfort and quality of life. Under the RN supervision, you will process physician orders, contribute to the therapeutic milieu, participate on the clinical team, and assist with discharge instructions and follow-up.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred.
• Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician in acute adult outpatient or inpatient psychiatric unit.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
• Current California State Licensed Psychiatric Technician license.
• Spanish language skills preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the RN, accepts and processes physician orders.
• Under direction of the RN, provides continuous bedside clinical observations, prescribed care, physical and emotional support to patients as directed in plan of care.
• Reports changes in patient condition and family needs as needed.
• Provides psychoeducational group support, contributes to, and supports the therapeutic milieu, and ensures the safety and well-being of the patient population.
• Participates as a team member of the clinical interdisciplinary team to ensure appropriate care, support, and resources to patients.
• Demonstrates effective crisis intervention skills as indicated.
• Promotes healthy expressions of patient’s thoughts and feelings.
• Assists in explanation and documents after care instructions to patients tailored to their individual needs.
• Maintains adequate levels of supplies and functioning of equipment and demonstrates accountability of all equipment.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Shows initiative and good judgment.
• Assist in providing discharge instructions and follow up appointments for the patient.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
