Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) for a full-time day shift. Under RN supervision, the LPT observes patients, provides supportive care and participates in crisis intervention to maximize comfort and quality of life.

Requirements include a California LPT license, 6 months to 1 year of acute inpatient/outpatient experience, current BLS, and completion of annual Workplace Violence Prevention training.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician in acute adult outpatient or inpatient psychiatric unit.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Must hold and maintain California State Licensed Psychiatric Technician license.
• Complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate within 30 days of hire/transfer.

Responsibilities

• Accepts and processes physician orders in collaboration with the RN.
• Provides continuous bedside observations and prescribed care under RN direction.
• Reports changes in patient condition and family needs as needed.
• Provides psychoeducational group support and contributes to the therapeutic milieu.
• Participates as a team member of the clinical interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrates crisis intervention skills as indicated.
• Promotes healthy expressions of patient thoughts and feelings.
• Assists in explaining and documents after-care instructions to patients.
• Maintains supplies and equipment functioning; demonstrates accountability.
• Works independently with minimal supervision and shows initiative.
• Assists in discharge instructions and follow-up appointments.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) Full Time Day

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT), under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), provides safe, efficient, timely, and high-quality care. Under RN supervision, the LPT is responsible for the observation of patient/family needs and provides supportive care and emotional support to the patient/family in times of crisis to maximize patient comfort and enhance quality of life. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality and performance improvement process activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• In collaboration with the RN, accepts and processes physician orders.

• Maintains adequate levels of supplies and functioning of equipment and demonstrates accountability of all equipment.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Shows initiative and good judgment.
• Assist in providing discharge instructions and follow up appointments for the patient.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

B. Qualifications/Experience

• Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience as a Licensed Psychiatric Technician in acute adult outpatient or inpatient psychiatric unit, background and knowledge of psychiatric and illnesses and treatment.
• Must complete annual Workplace Violence Prevention Program/Certificate, per hospital policy, during initial training/orientation but not to exceed 30 days from hire/transfer.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Current California State Licensed Psychiatric Technician license.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

• Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish)
