Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Protection, seeks a Licensed Professional Geologist to safeguard water resources, evaluate mining proposals, and analyze complex geologic data. Qualifications

  • Technical Evaluation: Study site stratigraphy, structure, and geochemistry for permit decisions.
  • Water Protection: Review groundwater and surface water data to safeguard resources.

Job description

As a Licensed Professional Geologist for the Department of Environmental Protection, you will play a vital role in safeguarding water resources and evaluating mining proposals. This position gives you the chance to analyze complex data, conduct field investigations, and apply geologic principles to real-world challenges. You will work with a variety of professionals and agencies to resolve issues and guide responsible development. This position leads the review of mining-related permit applications and evaluates geologic, hydrologic, and environmental data to ensure responsible mining operations. It involves coordinating field surveys, analyzing technical information, and working with applicants and partner agencies.

  • Permit Review: Evaluate mining and NPDES applications and prepare technical recommendations and decisions
  • Field Investigation: Conduct site surveys and coordinate findings with engineering and inspection staff
  • Impact Analysis: Assess geologic and hydrologic data to determine effects on water resources and develop solutions
  • Technical Evaluation: Study site stratigraphy, structure, and geochemistry to support complex permit determinations
  • Water Protection: Review groundwater and surface water data to safeguard water supplies and assess replacement needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in New Stanton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding.
