Job description

Overview

Legion Engineering, LLC. is seeking a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to help lead the delivery of utility infrastructure projects while playing a strategic role in the company’s continued growth. This position blends core engineering responsibilities—such as technical review, permitting, and compliance—with cross-functional leadership, jurisdictional coordination, and involvement in federally funded programs. The ideal candidate brings a combination of engineering depth, systems-level thinking, and the ability to work fluidly across teams, agencies, and client needs.

As Legion scales, this role offers the opportunity to grow into a key technical leader—shaping not just projects, but the direction of the engineering function itself.

Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Engineering Authority
  • Maintain firm’s engineering credentials by serving as the licensed PE of record.
  • Review and stamp design documents as needed for permitting or compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate professional insurance and licensure documentation.
Technical Leadership & Business Development
  • Act as a technical mentor and subject matter resource for employees and clients.
  • Support project planning and process development as the firm scales.
  • Help define and grow the engineering function in line with company goals.
  • Use engineering expertise to identify trends and opportunities for company growth.
Technical Oversight
  • Conduct high-level engineering reviews for technical deliverables.
  • Guide permitting efforts, ensuring technical and procedural accuracy.
  • Provide input on infrastructure plans, traffic control designs, and site assessments.
  • Support quality control across deliverables.
Project Coordination
  • Work with public agencies and stakeholders to secure permits and clearances.
  • Participate in grant-funded projects by helping prepare documentation and reports.
  • Contribute to planning and approvals for multi-phase infrastructure programs.
  • Coordinate across internal teams and external partners to meet milestones.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) License in Texas (or ability to obtain quickly).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in utility, telecom, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong understanding of permitting processes and technical review standards.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
  • Experience with broadband grants or federally funded infrastructure programs.
  • Familiarity with telecom permitting, utility coordination, or ROW work.
  • Analytical thinker with a strategic mindset—able to connect technical projects to business growth, anticipate client needs, and spot emerging trends.
  • Interest in growing into a project leadership or team-building role.
Growth Path

This role blends technical engineering with leadership and coordination. You’ll be the engineering point of accountability while shaping project execution, cross-team workflows, and permitting strategy. The position is well-suited to someone early in their PE career and designed to grow into a senior engineering or technical leadership role over time.

This position is a hybrid role based in Central Texas. Candidates must be able to work on site in Austin, TX and/or College Station, TX multiple days per week.
