Job summary

Providence in Portland is looking for a part-time Licensed Professional Counselor to evaluate and treat psychiatric and substance use disorders. The counselor will work under clinical supervision, conducting assessments and providing evidence-based psychotherapy services.

The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a relevant field and an Oregon Professional Counselor License. Experience in a behavioral health setting is preferred. A comprehensive benefits package is offered.

Job description

Overview

Licensed Professional Counselor (part-time, variable) at Providence Portland Medical Center. The LPC practices in a treatment setting under clinical supervision and focuses on evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and substance use disorders. The LPC collaborates with the patient and support system to evaluate and diagnose patients. The position provides specialized psychotherapy services and uses evidence-based approaches to reduce and/or resolve symptoms of psychiatric and/or substance use disorders. Under direct clinical supervision, the LPC performs risk assessment and implements risk reduction/mitigation plans to ensure patient and community safety. Approaches may include cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and the recovery model. The role supports individual, group and family psychotherapy in multi-modal treatment settings and works under a licensing board-approved supervision plan toward licensure with a board-qualified supervisor certified by the Oregon State Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct evaluation, diagnosis and treatment planning for psychiatric and substance use disorders.
  • Collaborate with patients and their support systems to inform treatment decisions.
  • Provide specialized psychotherapy services (individual, group and family) and apply evidence-based approaches (CBT, motivational interviewing, DBT, ACT, recovery model).
  • Assess risk to self and others; develop and implement risk reduction/mitigation plans to ensure safety.
  • Operate under clinical supervision within an approved supervision plan to achieve licensure.
  • Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary care team on an adult inpatient psychiatric unit.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Counseling Psychology or related field.
  • Oregon Professional Counselor License (upon hire).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year master’s level practicum in a behavioral health setting (accredited college or university internship).
  • Additional experience in substance use treatment setting.
