Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for inpatient care on night shifts in Wisconsin. The role supports the nursing care plan, administers meds per policy, and reports patient status to the RN while ensuring safety and quality care.

Graduate of an accredited LPN program; Wisconsin RN ladder option completion or Illinois RN ladder option may apply. Experience preferred; CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.

• Wisconsin: completed RN program portion to obtain LPN completion certificate.
• Illinois: Ladder Option RN program completed.

• Respond safely to requests and communicate with the RN.

Job description

OVERVIEW

Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to patients in an inpatient setting in support of the nursing philosophy. Responsibilities may include day, evening, night, weekend, holiday, and/or on-call shifts. Performs other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides quality patient care by performing treatments and procedures according to established protocols.
• Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment
• Administers specified medications as allowed by policy and procedure, licensure, and State Practice Act.
• Responds in a safe and timely manner to patient requests and reports significant observations to the RN promptly.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the patient's plan of care and delivers care safely and within established standards and guidelines. Participates in planning for patient's care by providing input to the RN and under the direction of the RN, assists in implementing the patient care plan.
• Demonstrates knowledge of established hospital and nursing policies. Identifies emergency situations, initiates nursing measures as appropriate within scope of practice in emergency situations and seeks assistance and direction as necessary.
• Instructs patients in self-care according to the teaching plan and the directions of the RN. Documents this aspect of the patient's care.
• Participates in QA & I.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited LPN Program OR

Wisconsin: Have completed the portion of the RN Program needed to obtain a certificate of completion in practical nursing.

Illinois: Have completed the designated curriculum of a Ladder Option Approved Designated RN Program.

Experience in clinical setting preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in state of practice
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days
