DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides hands-on nursing services that support the daily health needs of individuals housed at SCI Laurel Highlands. It focuses on carrying out care plans and delivering essential clinical support. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Clinical Support: Perform nursing tasks such as taking vital signs, assisting with treatments, and supporting activities of daily living
• Medication Administration: Prepare and administer prescribed medications and record all related actions accurately
• Emergency Response: Provide first aid, CPR, or AED support during medical emergencies as appropriate
• Health Documentation: Maintain accurate electronic health records and prepare reports needed for care continuity
• Care Coordination: Communicate important information to nursing, custody, and administrative staff to support safe operations
• Supply Management: Sterilize equipment and maintain proper inventory levels for treatment areas

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full-time employment, 40 hour work week. The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm; and 3rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am. Work hours TO BE DETERMINED. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Special Requirements

This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania. All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements

PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license. Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required. You must be able to perform essential job functions.
