Job description

Are you passionate about providing hands-on nursing care and supporting the health needs of individuals in a correctional setting? As a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Department of Corrections, you will help deliver important medical services that promote patient well-being and continuity of care at the State Correctional Institution (SCI at Greene). Your skills will support treatment plans, medication administration, and daily health services. Make a lasting impact through meaningful work that helps others every day.

In this position, you will provide direct nursing care and support medical services within a correctional healthcare setting. You will assist with treatment plans, patient monitoring, medication administration, recordkeeping, and emergency response activities. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Patient Care: Implement nursing care plans, monitor patient conditions, and assist with daily living and hygiene needs
• Medication Administration: Prepare and administer prescribed medications and treatments while maintaining accurate records
• Health Monitoring: Observe physical and emotional conditions, identify healthcare needs, and report findings to appropriate medical staff
• Emergency Response: Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid, CPR, or AED assistance when necessary
• Medical Documentation: Record, retrieve, and maintain health information, reports, and controlled substance records
• Supply Management: Sterilize instruments, monitor inventory levels, and maintain adequate treatment area supplies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 40 hour work week.
• The Department of Corrections is staffed by three work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. These shifts include 1st shift (6:00 AM to 2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:00 PM to 6:30 AM). Your work schedule is to be determined. Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $68,914.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
