The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Corrections, seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse for SCI Waymart to provide hands-on nursing care, monitor patients, administer medications, and support treatment plans in a secure facility.

This full-time role covers 24/7 shifts with no telework option. Candidates must hold PA LPN licensure; temporary permit holders must obtain full licensure within one year. Starting salary is $68,914 per year before taxes.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides hands-on nursing care by supporting treatment plans, monitoring health conditions, and ensuring continuity of care within the institution.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

• Vital Monitoring: Check vital signs, observe health changes, and report physical and emotional behaviors
• Medication Administration: Prepare and administer medications and document treatments as ordered
• Direct Care: Assist ambulatory and non ambulatory inmates with daily living needs and hygiene
• Emergency Response: Provide first aid, CPR, and AED support during medical emergencies
• Record Management: Record information in the electronic health record and prepare reports for transfers or release
• Equipment Care: Sterilize instruments, maintain supplies, and ensure treatment areas remain stocked

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment.
• The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
• 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
• 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
• 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
• Work hours TO BE DETERMINED
• Alternative work schedules may be available, depending on operational needs.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirements:

• This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
• All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
  

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
